A romanticized cover illustration for a biography of Thomas “Broken Hand” Fitzpatrick. Pen and ink, by Joe Neil Beeler.

Historic Congressional Cemetery is the final resting place for some of the most influential – and colorful – Western explorers in U.S. history. Join intrepid docent Jeff Trinca as he navigates the graves of interred residents like the famous mountain man and guide, Thomas “Broken Hand” Fitzpatrick; of map makers and explorers George Preuss and Joseph Nicollet, who drew the road maps of the West used by everyday people; and of explorer and peace commissioner Alfred B. Meacham, who survived a scalping. They and several others dot the trail of this special topic tour, which is being offered for the first time.

Tickets are only $10 and all proceeds go to benefitting our non-profit mission of historical preservation and education. Please come prepared with comfortable clothing and shoes, as the tours often stray from the main paths.

The event is rain or shine and you may meet the docent near our front gate.
