Then join us in Congressional Cemetery’s chapel for Creative Crypt! \nThe Creative Crypt at HCC is an extension of Mausoleums and Manuscripts. It’s a two-hour work time for creative projects like writing\, visual arts\, fiber arts and more. Meet other creative people and make progress on your projects in the inspiring environment of HCC. It’s completely free join! \nCreative Crypt will have two categories: silent workshops and chatty workshops. \nSilent workshops are a quiet workspace with very limited talking. This time encourages you to get into a workflow in an environment with other creatives. Headphones are allowed. \nChatty workshops are just that – a time to chat and work. This is perfect for getting to know other creatives and getting feedback and advice on your work. These will workshop types will alternate\, so check out the dates below. This workshop takes place in a historic building\, therefore we cannot allow materials that will stain\, require ventilation\, or may harm others in the workshop. We suggest graphite\, colored pencils\, yarns/threads\, and easy to clean materials. Please bring a cutting mat for any blades. Oil paint\, glitter (including glitter glue)\, and aerosols cans are not permitted. If you’re not sure about a material\, please email us with any questions. HCC Staff will ask you to remove any materials deemed harmful to the building\, cemetery\, or other participants of Creative Crypt. \nIs food permitted? \nYes\, feel free to bring a snack and covered beverage with you! \nIs there a sink? \nNo industrial sinks are available. DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Just Walk\, join us for a Sunset and Cemetery Pet Portraits in your pup’s favorite place! Options include dog-centered or family style portraits. Plan to dress up your dog and yourself in your favorite summer looks and enjoy the golden splendor of the setting sun! \nPortraits will take place between the Chapel and the Sousa family plot. \nThe cemetery will remain open to the public and off leash dog walkers. Walk ups will be available on a limited basis. \nJust Walk is a worker-owned business providing dog walking services in Washington D.C. They have been photographing your pet pals since 2011. You can check out their daily pictures on Instagram @justwalkdilps and at their website here! \nGet tickets here!\n \n————————————————– \nQ&A \nWhen will the event take place? \nThe pet portrait will take place Saturday\, July 25\, 2026 from 6 – 8pm. Tickets are sold in timed slots. Please arrive on time! \nDo I have to be a K9 Corps member to go? \nNo\, this event is open to the public and their well socialized dogs. Day passes are not required to attend this event. \nHow will this work? \nSign up for an available time slot. The pop up studio will be outdoors. Photos will posted to the Just Walk Photos website 48 hours after the event. From there\, participants will be able to view and download their pictures. These are intimate informal gatherings where we discuss death while eating cake and drinking tea to remind us of comfort and sweetness even in difficult times. There is no agenda other than providing a space for an open-ended conversation. \nPlease join us to explore these topics in the spirit of curiosity and wonder. These gatherings are not meant to offer or replace grief counseling. In the interest of privacy and being present\, we ask that these conversations remain in the room and there be no recording\, note-taking\, or personal details shared afterward. \nFollow this link for more about Death Cafe history and concept. \nOur Death Doula in Residence\, Laura Lyster-Mensh\, facilitates our death cafes and represents the cemetery for these evenings with a range of guest co-facilitators from the community. \nCongressional Cemetery offers these unique conversations free of charge\, and offers tea and sweets in the tradition of death cafes around the world. This is a non-refundable donation.\n\n\n\nPlease come prepared with comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing and shoes\, as the tours often stray from the main paths. Tours are rain or shine. These are intimate informal gatherings where we discuss death while eating cake and drinking tea to remind us of comfort and sweetness even in difficult times. There is no agenda other than providing a space for an open-ended conversation. \nPlease join us to explore these topics in the spirit of curiosity and wonder. These gatherings are not meant to offer or replace grief counseling. In the interest of privacy and being present\, we ask that these conversations remain in the room and there be no recording\, note-taking\, or personal details shared afterward. \nFollow this link for more about Death Cafe history and concept. \nOur Death Doula in Residence\, Laura Lyster-Mensh\, facilitates our death cafes and represents the cemetery for these evenings with a range of guest co-facilitators from the community. \nCongressional Cemetery offers these unique conversations free of charge\, and offers tea and sweets in the tradition of death cafes around the world. This is perfect for getting to know other creatives and getting feedback and advice on your work. These will workshop types will alternate\, so check out the dates below. While we may not have any dinosaurs roaming around\, we hope you’ll still join us for the Cinematery viewing of Jurassic Park\, happening Friday\, September 11th! Bring your family\, friends\, and local paleontologist for special movie event. \nFeel free to bring your own beverages and food. Alcohol is permitted and will also be for sale. Keep in mind that all guests will be ID checked upon entry. We also recommend bringing your own blankets\, low lying lawn chairs\, etc. Please do NOT bring chairs that may obstruct the view of those behind you.\n\nRain date will be September 12th\n\n\nGates open about an hour before sunset and the movie begins at sunset. The movie will begin at 7:30 pm.\n\nGet tickets here!\nWhy the ticket price has changed from last year? This price reflects new Licensing agreements which require a larger revenue split with production companies when showing their movies. This means we have to update the pricing for Cinematery to maintain our goal of raising funds for the cemetery while engaging the community. DESCRIPTION:We welcome you to join us at one of our monthly Death Cafes at Historic Congressional Cemetery. \nAs an active burial ground\, Historic Congressional Cemetery is well acquainted with death\, but just what is a Death Cafe? \nDeath Cafe is a global movement to encourage discussion about the often-taboo subject of death. These are intimate informal gatherings where we discuss death while eating cake and drinking tea to remind us of comfort and sweetness even in difficult times. There is no agenda other than providing a space for an open-ended conversation. \nPlease join us to explore these topics in the spirit of curiosity and wonder. These gatherings are not meant to offer or replace grief counseling. In the interest of privacy and being present\, we ask that these conversations remain in the room and there be no recording\, note-taking\, or personal details shared afterward. \nFollow this link for more about Death Cafe history and concept. \nOur Death Doula in Residence\, Laura Lyster-Mensh\, facilitates our death cafes and represents the cemetery for these evenings with a range of guest co-facilitators from the community. \nCongressional Cemetery offers these unique conversations free of charge\, and offers tea and sweets in the tradition of death cafes around the world. We do ask that you consider bringing a food or beverage item to share\, or a suggested $5 donation\, to help cover event costs. \nDue to space limitations and to allow us to offer an intimate conversation\, please reserve a chair in advance for the dates you will be joining us.
