DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided tour of Congressional Cemetery! Over 67\,000 people are interred at Congressional Cemetery\, ranging from 1807 all the way until the present day. Their stories are American history in microcosm\, all in 35 acres of the nation’s capital. Come and experience their extraordinary lives in a one of kind portal into the past. In this 1 hour to 1 hour and 30-minute tour\, one of our trained docents who will share the stories of some of Congressionals’s interred residents while walking the beautiful and scenic cemetery grounds. \n \nPlease come prepared with comfortable and weather appropriate clothing and shoes\, as the tours often stray from the main paths. \nThe Cemetery is closed to dogs on Saturdays from 11am – 3pm. \nReservations are required and a tour reservation is a $5 donation. \nSaturday tours begin at 11 am\, rain or shine. Visitors may meet docents at the front gate of the cemetery located at the corner of E St. and Potomac Ave. \nReserve your spot here!\n  \n

What are their stories? \nThis fall\, we invite you to uncover tales of scandal from the residents of Congressional Cemetery—a macabre glimpse into D.C.’s notorious past. Discover how their legacies endure in our collective memory. Encounter those shrouded in the past\, brought vividly to life by our talented actors\, and witness them as they tell their stories. Join us for Soul Strolls 2024: Scandal and Slander. \nOur annual twilight tours explore the stories of individuals buried here through a guided lantern lit tour of the grounds with costumed interpreters. Experience the history of this hallowed ground exactly the way it should be experienced in October – in twilight and darkness\, immersed in vignettes of the lives of our interred residents. \nDetails: \nSoul Strolls take place over four nights\, October 18-19 and October 25-26. Hour-long tours depart every 15 minutes between 6:00 and 9:30 pm on Fridays (Oct 18\, Oct 25) and between 5:00 PM- 9:30 PM on Saturdays (Oct 19\, Oct 26). Gates open a half hour prior to the first tour start time. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your tour start time. Tours depart from the chapel\, also known as the “Tavern of Lost Souls” during the event. Come and enjoy live music\, thematic cocktails\, and the ambiance of an evening in the cemetery. DESCRIPTION:It’s back! In partnership with Just Walk\, join us for a Halloween pet portrait in your pup’s favorite place! Options for portraits include either dog or family style. Plan to dress up in your favorite costume! We will have some costume options available for your pet as well as seasonally spooky backgrounds and decorations. \nPortraits will take place between the Chapel and the Sousa family plot. The cemetery will remain open to the public and dog walkers. \nJust Walk is a worker-owned business providing dog walking services in Washington D.C. We have been photographing our pet pals since 2011. You can check out our daily pictures on Instagram @justwalkdilps. \n————————————————– \nThe K9 Corps at Historic Congressional Cemetery is private dog-walking program\, bringing life\, community\, and volunteerism to this extraordinary burial ground. A portion of the sitting fee will benefit Historic Congressional Cemetery. \n————————————————– \nQ&A \nWhen will the event take place?\nThe pop up pet portrait will take place Sunday\, October 13\, 2024 starting at 11am. Tickets are sold in timed slots. Please arrive on time! \nDo I have to be a member to go?\nNo\, this event is open to the public and their well socialized dogs. \nHow will this work?\nSign up for an available time slot. The pop up studio will be outdoors. Photos will posted to the Just Walk Photos website 48 hours after the event. From there\, participants wilm be able to view and download their pictures. DESCRIPTION:Start Time: The 5K begins at 5:30 pm. Registration and packet pickup opens at 4:00 PM. \nCost: $35 for the race \nNot only is this a fun race\, but it comes with the good feeling you get when supporting a non-profit! \nWe are unable to offer refunds or race transfers. ​Our races are rain or shine\, and there is no rain date for the race. \nThe Course:\nOur 5K course is flat\, fast\, and USATF certified. Start and finish are within the cemetery\, and the course goes out on the adjoining Anacostia Trail for a quick out and back. Water is available at the start/finish line and at a water stop around the halfway point of the 5k course. \nAwards:\nPrizes will be rewarded for the top finishers\, including the team with the best collective time! Water and snacks are provided to all race participants. Additional prizes are awarded for the winners of the costume contest. \nShirts:\nWant to dress for the occasion with some Dead Man’s Run swag? You are in luck! You may purchase an official race shirt using the link here. \nDogs:\nWe do allow strollers and dogs on this course. However\, please keep in mind that all those with dogs and strollers will be asked to start at the back of the group to minimize confusion. Please no retractable leashes! \nChildren’s Race:\nWe are also offering a children’s race prior to the start of the 5k. Participation in the children’s run is free for any child who has a parent\, guardian\, or friend registered for the 5K. Children may still participate\, if no runners are registered\, for a $5 fee. Registration for the children’s race is in our chapel the day of the race and a parent or guardian must sign a waiver. \nRegistration:\nThere is no pre-race packet pickup. All bib pickup will occur prior to the race in our chapel. Bib pickup begins at 4:00 PM in the Chapel. \nCostume Contest:\nDressing for the occasion? In addition to prizes for the top finishers\, a panel of judges will award prizes to the top individual and team costumes. Entry into the contest is on race day only. Find our judges near the starting line\, fill out a small registration card\, and the judges will check out your costume. So pack your chairs or picnic blanket and whatever tasty treats you enjoy and plan to join us for an exclusive picnic at an atmospheric National Historic Landmark. Join us for an evening under the stars! \nFeel free to bring your own beverages and food. Alcohol is permitted and will also be for sale. Keep in mind that all guests will be ID checked upon entry. We are so excited to bring the Bruce Willis led spooky thriller The Sixth Sense to Cinematery! \nCinematery is our annual outdoor summer film screenings. Held on the cemetery grounds\, this one-of-a-kind event allows you to enjoy the ambiance of the cemetery after dark while taking in a classic film with friends and family. So pack your chairs or picnic blanket and whatever tasty treats you enjoy and plan to join us for an exclusive picnic at an atmospheric National Historic Landmark. Join us for an evening under the stars! \nFeel free to bring your own beverages and food. Alcohol is permitted and will also be for sale. Keep in mind that all guests will be ID checked upon entry. We also recommend bringing your own blankets\, low lying lawn chairs\, etc. Please do NOT bring chairs that may obstruct the view of those behind you. \nGates open about an hour before sunset and the movie begins at sunset (for this film\, gates open at 7:30 and the film will begin between 8:45-9:00) Times are adjusted for earlier sundown times. \nReservations are required. They lived in an America of dynamic change. The march of progress that dominated this new modern era resulted in the banning of alcohol\, with personal freedom sacrificed to preserve a perceived sense of collective morality. Washingtonians grappled with this paradox of prohibition in different ways\, shaping events\, influencing popular culture\, and transforming American society. We invite you to join us for a one night only\, one-of-a-kind immersive experience. Using this new revenue stream\, DeMent grew wealthier\, but ultimately his reach escaped his grasp as his trade led to his untimely end. At Gentleman’s Gambit\, DeMent is returning\, along with some other lost souls\, and they need your help to solve a mystery. \nWhat circumstances led to DeMent’s death? How did he die? Where? Who killed him? All of these questions and more will be answered when you solve the mystery at Gentleman’s Gambit…so long as you are up to the challenge. \n \nGentleman’s Gambit attendees will be tasked with solving an interactive history hunt where they will solve riddles to locate clues to unravel the mystery of DeMent’s death. Some clues may just be a simple gravestone. Others\, are a bit more lively\, as the lost spirits of those buried here wander the grounds. Perhaps\, if asked the right questions\, they will be kind enough to help you solve the mystery to win a prize? \nAll attendees at Gentleman’s Gambit will receive a Bootlegger’s Adviser History Hunt and instructions on how to participate upon arrival. The History Hunt may be completed at any time throughout the event and your prize may be redeemed at DeMent’s Speakeasy once you have solved the mystery. \nRain and Weather Policy:  \nThis an outside event that will be held rain or shine. Guests should keep an eye on the forecast and prepare for the elements accordingly. A message will be sent to all ticketed attendees prior to the event with a weather advisory. \nIn the event that severe weather makes the event too dangerous to proceed\, the event will be canceled. In this case\, tickets will be refunded with the exception of the charitable contribution portion\, which will be retained to cover event costs.
