Plan to dress up in your favorite costume! We will have some costume options available for your pet as well as seasonally cheery backgrounds and decorations. \nPortraits will take place between the Chapel and the Sousa family plot. Register for tickets here! \nThe cemetery will remain open to the public and dog walkers (on leash ONLY). There will be a Holiday Market held the same day! Please stick around! \nJust Walk is a worker-owned business providing dog walking services in Washington D.C. We have been photographing our pet pals since 2011. Tickets are sold in timed slots. Please arrive on time! The event takes places concurrently with the HCC Holiday Market. Due to the Holiday Market\, dogs must be on leash until they arrive at the photography area. Thank you! \nDo I have to be a member to go?\nNo\, this event is open to the public and their well socialized dogs. \nHow will this work?\nSign up for an available time slot. The pop up studio will be outdoors. Photos will posted to the Just Walk Photos website 48 hours after the event. From there\, participants will be able to view and download their pictures. DESCRIPTION:  \n \nAt Congressional\, we remember our veterans. Over 1700 veterans from almost every major American armed conflict are interred in the historic grounds of Congressional Cemetery. And while they are no longer here\, their memories live on. To help honor and remember\, we invite you to join Congressional Cemetery and our community partners for the annual Wreaths Across America Wreath Laying Ceremony and event. \nThe ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM at Congressional Cemetery. Upon arrival\, attendees are directed to the ceremony area. At the conclusion of the ceremony (around 11:30 AM)\, attendees and volunteers will assist with the placing of wreaths at veteran graves. Attending the ceremony is free but we ask that you please RSVP using the link below. In addition\, chairs are provided for the ceremony and are available on a first come\, first served basis. \nPlease note that this an outdoor event with no rain date. We advise dressing for the elements. We also recommend wearing appropriate footwear\, as the ground is uneven across the cemetery. Due to our status as a National Historic Landmark\, we are unable to be ADA compliant. \nWreaths Across America is a US-based Non-Profit Organization started in 2007 by Wreath Producer Morrill Worcester. DESCRIPTION:We welcome you to join us at one of our monthly Death Cafes at Historic Congressional Cemetery. \nAs an active burial ground\, Historic Congressional Cemetery is well acquainted with death\, but just what is a Death Cafe? \nDeath Cafe is a global movement to encourage discussion about the often-taboo subject of death. These are intimate informal gatherings where we discuss death while eating cake and drinking tea to remind us of comfort and sweetness even in difficult times. There is no agenda other than providing a space for an open-ended conversation. \nPlease join us to explore these topics in the spirit of curiosity and wonder. These gatherings are not meant to offer or replace grief counseling. In the interest of privacy and being present\, we ask that these conversations remain in the room and there be no recording\, note-taking\, or personal details shared afterward. \nFollow this link for more about Death Cafe history and concept. \nOur Death Doula in Residence\, Laura Lyster-Mensh\, facilitates our death cafes and represents the cemetery for these evenings with a range of guest co-facilitators from the community. \nCongressional Cemetery offers these unique conversations free of charge\, and offers tea and sweets in the tradition of death cafes around the world. We do ask that you consider bringing a food or beverage item to share\, or a suggested $5 donation\, to help cover event costs. \nDue to space limitations and to allow us to offer an intimate conversation\, please reserve a chair in advance for the dates you will be joining us.
