DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Just Walk\, join us for a Halloween Pet Portrait event in your pup’s favorite place! Options for portraits include either dog or family style. Plan to dress up you and your dog in your favorite spooky season looks!\n\nPortraits will take place between the Chapel and the Sousa family plot. Register for tickets here!\nThe cemetery will remain open to the public and off leash dog walkers.\n\nJust Walk is a worker-owned business providing dog walking services in Washington D.C. We have been photographing our pet pals since 2011. You can check out their daily pictures on Instagram @justwalkdilps and at their website here!\n————————————————–\nThe K9 Corps at Historic Congressional Cemetery is a private dog-walking program\, bringing life\, community\, and volunteerism to this extraordinary burial ground. A portion of the sitting fee will benefit Historic Congressional Cemetery.\n————————————————–\nQ&A\nWhen will the event take place?\nThe pet portrait will take place Sunday\, October 5th\, 2025 from 11am-4pm. Tickets are sold in timed slots. Please arrive on time!\n\nDo I have to be a member to go?\nNo\, this event is open to the public and their well-socialized dogs.\n\nHow will this work?\nSign up for an available time slot. The pop-up studio will be outdoors. Photos will be posted to the Just Walk Photos website 48 hours after the event. From there\, participants will be able to view and download their pictures. SUMMARY:Sunday Stroll Guided Introductory Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided tour of Congressional Cemetery! Over 67\,000 people are interred at Congressional Cemetery\, ranging from 1807 all the way until the present day. Their stories are American history in microcosm\, all in 35 acres of the nation’s capital. Come and experience their extraordinary lives in a one of kind portal into the past. In this 60 to 90-minute tour\, one of our trained docents who will share the stories of some of Congressional’s interred residents while walking the beautiful and scenic cemetery grounds. \nPlease come prepared with comfortable and weather appropriate clothing and shoes\, as the tours often stray from the main paths. \nThe Cemetery is open to dogs on Sundays. Please be aware of that off-leash dogs will be on the grounds at the time of the tour. \nReservations are required and a tour reservation is a $5 donation. \nSunday tours begin at 1:00 PM\, rain or shine. Visitors may meet docents at the front gate of the cemetery located at the corner of E St. and Potomac Ave. \nReserve your spot here!

DESCRIPTION:Dead Man’s Run is Congressional Cemetery’s annual fall 5K fundraiser race! We hope that you will join us Sunday\, October 12 at 5:30 PM for the region’s most death defying and thematic 5k race. This bare bones run is the best way to stay ahead of your grave…by running among them! The race starts inside the cemetery and continues onto the Anacostia Trail for a ghostly evening run full of spooky music and other fun! \nStart Time: The 5K begins at 5:30 pm. \nCost (Includes T-shirt if ordered before September 22nd): \nEarly Bird [BEFORE August 1st]: $30 \nStandard: $40 \nNot only is this a fun race\, but it comes with the good feeling you get when supporting a non-profit! \nWe are unable to offer refunds or race transfers. ​Our races are rain or shine\, and there is no rain date for the race. \nThe Course:\nOur 5K course is flat\, fast\, and USATF certified. Start and finish are within the cemetery\, and the course goes out on the adjoining Anacostia Trail for a quick out and back. Water is available at the start/finish line and at a water stop around the halfway point of the 5k course. \nAwards:\nPrizes will be rewarded for the top finishers\, including the team with the best collective time! Water and snacks are provided to all race participants. Additional prizes are awarded for the winners of the costume contest. \nShirts:\nWant to dress for the occasion with some Dead Man’s Run swag? SUMMARY:Lincoln Assassination Tour
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand! This is your chance to experience our one of a kind Lincoln Assassination Tour if you missed the Cemetery Speaker Series earlier this year. \nOn April 14\, 1865\, President Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head while watching a play at Ford’s Theatre. The assassin\, John Wilkes Booth\, jumped to the stage floor and fled. The next day\, April 15\, President Lincoln died as a result of his wounds. With Booth’s escape\, the largest manhunt in American history ensued as law enforcement and military searched for the assassin. Aided by fellow conspirators such as David Herold\, Booth evaded authorities until Army soldiers located Booth at a local farm. Surrounded\, Booth was shot and killed in that fateful confrontation. Eventually\, 8 other conspirators\, including Herold\, were implicated in the conspiracy and subsequently executed after a trial by military tribunal. \n \nThe story of the 16th President’s assassination is a well known one. Hundreds of books\, thousands of articles\, and dozens of special exhibits are just some of the ways this story has been told. But have you ever seen the story told using the graves of those involved with the assassination? \nPlease join one of our expert docents for a tour of the graves and memorials associated with the assassination at Congressional Cemetery. \nTickets are only $10 and all proceeds go to benefitting our non-profit mission of historical preservation and education.
