Congressional Cemetery offers a free, docent-led tour every Saturday at 11 am. Founded in 1807 as the Washington Parish Burial Ground, Congressional Cemetery became America's first de facto national cemetery, predating Arlington by almost 60 years. Among the 65,000 burials at Congressional are scores of noteworthy citizens who left their mark on the city and the nation. Find out more about their amazing stories by joining an introductory tour of the cemetery.
No reservations are needed, and tours take place rain or shine. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to venture off the cemetery's paths. All tours meet at the front gate of the cemetery at 1801 E Street, SE.
